Josh has been four wheel driving with his family for years and has come prepared. For a start his Suzuki Grand Vitara is fitted with a powerful recovery winch. Not only that, he also has stored on the roof racks a High lift jack and also a set of Recovery tracks. Josh is not only the most experienced four-wheel driver of the group but he is also the designated organiser.

Its eight am sharp and Josh is impatiently waiting at the service station for the other boys to arrive, as he waits, he sits there admiring the brand new shiny recovery winch he personally fitted to the front of his rig. 30 minutes go by, and the rest of the boys arrive in the second car they are bringing on the trip, Nic’s Ford ranger. Nic has packed inside his ranger a snatch strap, after Josh gives them a serve for being late he tells them to tune into channel 30 on the walkie talkies and they start to head off.

The boys have been driving for three and a half hours before they finally reach there first unpaved road. The gang is keen for an adventure there’ve got their recovery gear packed and their four wheel drives ready. After traveling a simple dirt rocky road for about an hour Josh pulls over and instructs Nic to do the same. Josh proclaims how the next part of the track is extremely hard and four wheel drive worthy hence why he brought his new recovery winch so it’s time to put the vehicles in 4WD. A moment goes by and before Nic comes over the walkie talkie and asks how to put his vehicle in four wheel drive. Nic is not only inexperienced but also has not had his vehicle very long. Josh and Dazza hop out to help as they are the only two that know anything about cars. After a good while of searching for a gear lever or button Josh decides to check the manual. Dazza ducks under the vehicle and confirms his suspicion. Dazza comes up from under the car and says I’m glad you packed your snatch strap, because this car is a 2WD. Nic is devastated he purchased the car thinking it was a 4WD not knowing they came in both 4WD and 2WD models. The rest of the boy’s cry with laughter, and proclaim it will be fine as Josh has a recovery winch.

What the boys didn’t think of is it had been raining in this location for the past two week so the trail they about to embark on will be the most mud they have ever seen. Ten minutes in, Nic gets bogged not to worry Josh hooks him up to his recovery winch. About 5 meters further down it happens again so Josh spins around and again connects the Ranger to his recovery winch. Josh’s brand new recovery winch is getting and absolute work out. But the recovery winch isn’t skipping a beat. However the unfortunate thing is the recovery winch is mounted to the front of Josh’s vehicle so he has to spin around to help Nic. Hooking him up to the recovery winch is fine every once and a while but is very inefficient and time consuming. Therefore, Josh decides it’s time to crack out the snatch strap. The benefit of the snatch strap is it can be connected to the back of the Suzuki Grand Vitara and the front of Nic’s Ford Ranger. Another good plus is the snatch strap can be left connected and Josh can basically just pull nicks vehicle through the tough track.

Twenty minutes go by of Josh towing nicks car via the snatch strap and it’s been going great until bang one of the tires on Josh’s vehicle just popped. Lucky Josh came prepared as his vehicle is lifted, he can’t raise his car using the standard jack. However, with the high lift jack he has fitted to the roof its no problem. One of the boys grabs down the high lift jack as josh loosens the popped and spare wheel. Josh has high lift jack mounts built into his front and rear bar work, so it makes using the high lift jack super easy and safe.

The wheel is changed, and the boys are ready to start again. The next part of the track is even worse Josh is snatch strapping Nic’s car but then his car gets bogged also. Therefore, what the boys have to do is connect Josh’s recovery winch to a tree and winch the Suzuki Grand Vitara whilst it is connect to the Ford Ranger via snatch strap. This means the recovery winch has to pull the weight of two vehicles, the boys are amazed as the recovery winch does a stella job and pulls both vehicles out.

Finally, after nearly three hours trekking through these muddy trail giving the recovery winch the test of its life the boys finally are nearing the end. Poor Nic is devastated his car isn’t a 4WD but the rest of the boys had such a blast they wouldn’t change a thing. All the crew loved getting out and hooking up the recovery winch and snatch strap. The boys discuss how there is nothing better than four wheel driving with your mates. Even when things don’t go to plan its dam good fun. Josh pipes up and says make sure you always come prepared though with the right recovery gear such as a recovery winch, snatch strap and a high lift jack. Then Sean chimes in and says and make sure you got a 4WD, the boys including Nic break into complete hysterical laughter.

The year is 2013 and a group of school mates Josh, Nic, Naz, Max, Sean, Dave, Lewis, Liam and Dazza have organized a four wheel drive camping holiday for the university break.
