I still pinch myself sometimes while I’m out camping, sitting around a fire taking it all in because I realize I’m out there camping for work. It doesn’t make sense to me and I hope the bosses don’t catch wind of this, because honestly- I’d do most of this stuff for free!

The boys and I could write a book or 2 with the amount of stories we can tell about trips we’ve done and the campsites we’ve been to over the years and the shenanigans we’ve gotten up to, but for now I thought I’d share with you guys my top 5 dream locations in Australia that I reckon every red blooded Aussie with a passion for the outdoors and camping like mine, needs to get out and explore for themselves.

It was nearly impossible to narrow this list down to just 5 campsites, because there are just so many awesome campgrounds and locations I’ve been to over the years- so these are the 5 that really stood out to me.

Blue Rag Trig

First on my list is Blue Rag Trig down in the Victorian High Country. This campsite sticks out to me for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the track that you take to get to the top (Blue Rag Range) is absolutely unreal and a must do for any 4wd enthusiast. The best part about this track is that you don’t need a massive patrol with lockers, 35’s and reduction gears to get there- in fact the first time I did it was in our bog stock Silver D-max you might have seen in some of our videos.

The other reason why this stands out to me is because on that very trip, we were stranded on top of Blue Rag for a night after an insane storm ripped through. It just became too dangerous to try and drive back down the track because visibility was near zero with the amount of rain and fog.

I think there were about 7 or so of us camping up there all huddled underneath a 6×3 gazebo while we were getting absolutely hammered with rain, wind and thunder. It didn’t even occur to us how dangerous this was until later on- considering we were on top of a trig point.. in the middle of a lighting storm.. holding onto the STEEL frame of a gazebo.. But luckily no one was harmed and when we woke up the next morning, the weather was absolutely beautiful and we got to see just how incredible the view is at this campsite.

Geehi Flats Campground

Next in line is a spot called Geehi Flats Campground which is down in the Snowy Mountains of NSW, Northwest of Mount Kosciusko. We travelled down there about a year ago, just after the launch of the MT1 camper trailer and honestly, when we first pulled into camp we were a little skeptical because we thought it was supposed to be surrounded by mountains, but it was super foggy, so you could hardly see 50m in front of you- But once that fog cleared, we had this unreal backdrop of mountains covered in snow. It looked insane and when golden hour came around, the late afternoon sun lit those mountains up like a Christmas tree. This would have to be up there with one of the most beautiful campsites around, which makes for awesome camping year-round.

Double Island Point

If you’re planning a camping trip through QLD, you’d be mad to not stay a couple of nights at Double Island Point. This is one of my favourite camping spots in all of QLD and I’ve camped here on at least 4 or 5 occasions and every single time it blows me away as to how lucky we are to live in the most beautiful countries in the world. The drive on the beachside to get there is about 35k’s long which takes about 45 minuets and it’s some of the best beach driving you’ll find anywhere.

One of my favourite photos in our gallery is one taken by our head photographer, Dean on Double Island Point a couple of years ago. We had a tropical storm blow through about 15k’s South of where we were camping, so we got a full on electrical show without getting drenched. Dean took advantage of this and started taking photos of our Ford Ranger- he ended capturing this wicked shot of lightning screaming across the sky above the ranger, so it dead set looked like lightning was flying out of the rooftop tent!

Cape Parlmerston

Last year when we were in the early stages of testing out the suspension of the MT1 Camper trailer, I was lucky enough to go on a 9500 km trip with some of our engineers to really put the camper trailer through its paces and absolutely thrash it on the harshest roads we could find and it didn’t miss a single beat the whole trip. We travelled from Brisbane, out to Birdsville, headed North up through the Gulf, then back across through Cairns, then headed South again.

The last camping stop on that trip was Cape Palmertson. This campsite was unreal and offered some awesome beach driving too. It’s also a spot where crocs are known to visit. Now I don’t know about you guys, but wrestling a prehistoric reptile isn’t up there on my favourite things to do and frankly- I’m terrified of them! Unfortunately, I let that slip to the boys, so naturally they proceeded to scare the living daylights out of me for the next 2 days. Fortunately, there were no crocs and we actually spoke to a bloke who had been going there for 10 years and he reckons he had never seen one.

The sunrise on our last morning there was absolutely unreal. I’ve never seen the sky so bright red. The sunrise by itself is more than enough reason for me to go camping there again.

Moreton Island

When you talk about dream locations to go camping, I reckon right at the top of that list would have to be Moreton Island. It’s one of my all-time favourite spots and I’ve only been there once. You get white sandy beaches, crystal clear blue water, awesome fishing, snorkeling, and dolphins- not to mention one of the best sunsets you’ll ever witness.

I went there for work back in 2019 and we camped on the west coast, which meant that we were obviously facing back towards the mainland. And at that time, the firies were doing some back burning in the Glasshouse Mountains which left smoke clouds all the way across the mainland which absolutely lit up at golden hour and gave us the best sunset any of us had ever seen! It really is an unreal place and that’s why if I had to choose one campsite to stay at forever- it’d hands down be Moreton Island.

There are still a multitude of campsites I’m chomping at the bit to get to including Tasmania, The Kimberley, Cape York and a bunch more! I seriously cannot wait to get back out there and start camping/ exploring again!

Over the past few years of my career, I have been lucky enough to visit some of the best campsites Australia.
