This is a feature-packed aluminium rooftop tent<\/a><\/strong> that sets up in seconds and has a massive bed inside, and it also has heaps of features that campers love, like a wrap-around three-sided awning<\/strong> <\/a>that provides excellent protection from the wind and the sun, letting you maximise airflow within the rooftop tent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course as the saying goes, you can always make a good thing even better, and there are a couple of clever ways that we\u2019ve customised our hardshell rooftop tent<\/strong> <\/a>to take our camping experiences up a whole new notch. Let\u2019s look at these easy DIY rooftop tent<\/strong> upgrades<\/strong><\/a> that you can do to your Kings Grand Tourer Rooftop Tent<\/strong>!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. ADD A SOLAR PANEL TO THE OPTIONAL ROOF CROSSBARS<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The Grand Tourer rooftop tent<\/a><\/strong> has a pair of accessory channel rails that run down the top of the roof. These allow you to add the optional Grand Tourer roof crossbars<\/strong> <\/a>which means that you can then carry all sorts of gear on top of your rooftop tent<\/strong>!<\/a> We\u2019ve seen tradies able to leave the Grand tourer ten<\/a>t<\/strong> on top of their work rig during the week and still be able to carry ladders, and you can even use the roof crossbars to pick up a bit of timber or some other bulky materials from the hardware store on weekends. But without a doubt our favourite use for these roof crossbars is to mount a Kings 160w fixed solar panel<\/a><\/strong> on the roof for continuous charging of your deep cycle battery<\/a>!<\/strong> Having a fixed solar panel for camping<\/a><\/strong> up on top of your rooftop tent<\/strong> <\/a>really is the best of both worlds, and in fact it means that in many cases you can even run your camping fridge<\/a><\/strong> 24\/7 \u2013 as long as you\u2019re getting enough sunshine during the day, or you\u2019re doing enough driving that your DC Charger<\/a><\/strong> will help top up your AGM battery<\/a><\/strong>! Many campers simply run the cabling for the solar panel<\/a> <\/strong>down around the front of the rooftop tent<\/a><\/strong>, and then find a way to get it inside the vehicle through a door seal or the like. When you\u2019re camping somewhere right on the edge of phone reception, your phone will use a whole lot more battery power as it searches for signal. Or maybe you\u2019re using your phone a lot at camp to take photos, or even play music. Whatever the reason, more often than not you\u2019ll climb up into your rooftop tent<\/strong><\/a> with a phone that needs charging, and being able to plug it in easily and keep it on hand is awesome! And of course nothing beats having a bit of LED camp lighting<\/a><\/strong> on hand when you need it too, to let you see what you\u2019re doing as you\u2019re climbing into bed at night. It even lets you read a book at night in your rooftop tent<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 now that\u2019s a great way to fall asleep!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. ADDING EXTERNAL LED CAMP LIGHTS OR WORK LIGHTS <\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        The third upgrade for a Kings grand tourer roof top tent<\/a><\/strong> is to make use of the accessory channel down the sides and the rear of the roof top tent<\/strong><\/a> to mount external LED camp lights<\/a><\/strong>. The accessory channel uses a standard M8 mounting track, meaning you can slide M8 bolts into the channel and use them as a way to easily mount lights to the side of the rooftop tent<\/strong>.<\/a> That means being able to flood your campsite with bright LED camplights<\/a><\/strong> at night \u2013 now that\u2019s a game changer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. THE ULTIMATE GRAND TOURER ROOFTOP TENT UPGRADE \u2013 ADDING AN AWNING<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          We\u2019ve saved the best for last! The number one modification you can make to your Kings aluminium rooftop tent<\/a> <\/strong>\u00a0is to use a set of genuine awning mounts<\/a><\/strong> to add an awning! Many campers add a King Wing awning<\/strong> <\/a>to their rooftop tent which wraps around the left hand side and the rear of the rooftop tent<\/a><\/strong>. This in turn lets you mount the entry ladder on the right hand side of the Grand Tourer tent<\/a><\/strong>, and gives you the best of both worlds \u2013 an amazing bedroom upstairs, and a fantastic sheltered camp kitchen and living area downstairs!
