We know our gear and without these top 10 bits of gear to take camping it wouldn’t be a proper trip!

There are dozens of bits of gear you can choose to bring with you to make camping both easier and much more comfortable – so we are going to run over our top 10 bits of camping gear we think you need to bring with you!

1.CAMP OVEN

The humble Bedourie Camp Oven can account for a dozen bits of cooking gear on its own and is a real jack-of-all-trades piece of kit. The lid can be used as a bush frypan upside down on top of your coals, whilst the base can be used to boil water, cook rice, heat up your pasta, steam veggies as well as the usual plethora of camp cooking meals that can be cooked.

If you are looking at minimising the amount of camping gear to take away with you, then you need to get your hands on a reliable lightweight, crack proof Bedourie camp oven!

2.CAST-IRON FRYPAN

Cast iron cookware has for many generations been the ultimate in camp cooking – After you’ve seasoned it, you can bung it straight on the fire and you’ve got yourself an awesome hot surface to cook tucker.
An Adventure Kings Cast Iron Skillet Pan is all you need – You’ll have something you’ll camp with for decades and if you love sharing your camping experience with the kids, can even pass your Cast iron down!

3.GOOD QUALITY KNIFE

This might be the inner survivor coming out, but as a camper and 4WDer, a good outdoor/camping knife’s as useful as they get. We’re not talking machetes or pig-stickers here, just something small enough to keep in your console, with both serrated and flat edges.

A good sharp knife is the most used tool in the chest and will let you do everything from food prep to cutting rope and even whittling wood (if you are careful).

4.LED HEAD TORCH

Definitely one of the best inventions of the past 10 years. A massive step in the right direction when comparing to the old-fashioned carbide miners lamps all work extremely well, with models like the Illuminator LED Head Torch reaching way out to over 70m!

These head torches are extremely compact so they can be easy to lose when you have a car full of gear, our pro tip is to keep yours somewhere handy all the time, like stretched over the passenger headrest, that way even if you have an issue with your 12v system you know exactly where it is when the lights are out!

5.AWNING

Whether for a sun shade or rain shelter, equipping your 4WD with a top quality Adventure Kings Awning can keep everyone in your convoy dry. Forget about taking the Shangri La of dome tents, it’ll only take up a tonne of space and be a burden to set up and pack away – especially if it’s wet. An Awning is a super quick and easy way to set up shelter at camp and is tucked up and out of the way when you don’t need it anymore!

There are plenty of accessories that you can add to an Adventure Kings Awning to enhance your campsite even further!

6.BBQ PLATE

As far as campfire cooking goes, it’s almost too easy to throw an Adventure Kings Camp Fire BBQ Plate over some campfire coals and have a perfect cooking setup ready to go. These really don’t cost that much and can pack flat almost anywhere inside their own canvas bag and are pretty darn easy to clean when you are done, simply scrape the scraps into the fire, let it cool and chuck it in the canvas bag – you’d be crazy not to grab one for those “just in case” cook ups.

7.BUSHSAW/AXE

A good quality bush saw and a sharp axe are an investment that will pay you back in dividends, by giving you the ability to not only saw, split and chop your own firewood effectively saving you stacks of cash in the long-run over buying bags of wood, it also makes sure you’re only cutting what you need, right where you need it.

The added benefit to being able to cut logs is the ability to clear the tracks from fallen trees, whilst not a dilemma on well-travelled tracks, if you take a detour, a fallen eucalyptus branch or a split tree can be a detour ending roadblock – equipping your 4WD with an axe and saw gives you the ability to clear the road and keep on truckin’!

8.BUSH POWER

By equipping your setup with a form of self sufficient power generation you can camp truly off grid. Modern day 12v solar panel systems are capable of keeping a power hungry 12v systems satisfied  on the tracks, with the clever 250w Adventure Kings Solar Panel outputting a HUGE 13.7A of regulated 12v power every hour of good sunlight, meaning you can keep your 12v lighting, and your Adventure Kings Fridge Freezer icy cold almost limitless on the tracks, without ever needing to turn your motor over to charge your battery!

9.LONG HANDLED SHOVEL

We wouldn’t head bush without one. Giving you the ability to reach underneath your 4WD to grabbing coals from a roaring fire, to even picking up the piping hot Camp Oven, to even digging a whole when nature calls, a long handled shovel is simply an invaluable piece of gear you should never leave at home!

10.FIRST AID KIT AND FIRE EXTINGUISHER

Although this is not directly camping related – it’s almost a no brainer. Having a quality First Aid Kit in the back of your 4WD like the Adventurer Rescue Swag, can literally be a life saver in the right hands, and doing a refresher course or even a fully fledged first aid certification course means you will also have the confidence to tackle hazardous situations and come out victorious.

As for a good quality Fire Extinguisher is cheap 4WD insurance, and with the right type of extinguisher you can tackle fuel, electrical and solid fuel fires making it extremely practical and indisposable on the tracks and at camp. These are a small price to pay for peace of mind.
