Ways To Customise Your Kings Grand Tourer Rooftop Tent To Make It Even Better

The Adventure Kings Grand Tourer MkII Aluminium Rooftop Tent is an amazing way to go camping! It’ll literally take your camping experience to the next level, getting you up off the ground and giving you the best night’s sleep ever when you’re camping. This is a feature-packed aluminium rooftop tent that sets up in seconds and has a massive bed inside, and it also has heaps of features that campers love, like a wrap-around three-sided awning that provides excellent protection from the wind and the sun, letting you maximise airflow within the rooftop tent.

Of course as the saying goes, you can always make a good thing even better, and there are a couple of clever ways that we’ve customised our hardshell rooftop tent to take our camping experiences up a whole new notch. Let’s look at these easy DIY rooftop tent upgrades that you can do to your Kings Grand Tourer Rooftop Tent!

  1. ADD A SOLAR PANEL TO THE OPTIONAL ROOF CROSSBARS

The Grand Tourer rooftop tent has a pair of accessory channel rails that run down the top of the roof. These allow you to add the optional Grand Tourer roof crossbars which means that you can then carry all sorts of gear on top of your rooftop tent! We’ve seen tradies able to leave the Grand tourer tent on top of their work rig during the week and still be able to carry ladders, and you can even use the roof crossbars to pick up a bit of timber or some other bulky materials from the hardware store on weekends. But without a doubt our favourite use for these roof crossbars is to mount a Kings 160w fixed solar panel on the roof for continuous charging of your deep cycle battery! Having a fixed solar panel for camping up on top of your rooftop tent really is the best of both worlds, and in fact it means that in many cases you can even run your camping fridge 24/7 – as long as you’re getting enough sunshine during the day, or you’re doing enough driving that your DC Charger will help top up your AGM battery! Many campers simply run the cabling for the solar panel down around the front of the rooftop tent, and then find a way to get it inside the vehicle through a door seal or the like. Solar is a perfect upgrade for the Kings aluminium roof top tent, and something we think all campers should look into.

  1. ADDING POWER INSIDE YOUR ROOFTOP TENT

If you’re running power down from your solar panel, why not run some cabling up into your rooftop tent at the same time? Having the ability to power a couple of USB outlets to charge your phones at night is perfect, and you can then even add a Kings LED camp light kit inside your rooftop tent for a bit of light at night when you need it! This is a fantastic rooftop tent upgrade that was in fact the first modification we did to our Grand Tourer roof top tent, and we’re glad that we did. When you’re camping somewhere right on the edge of phone reception, your phone will use a whole lot more battery power as it searches for signal. Or maybe you’re using your phone a lot at camp to take photos, or even play music. Whatever the reason, more often than not you’ll climb up into your rooftop tent with a phone that needs charging, and being able to plug it in easily and keep it on hand is awesome! And of course nothing beats having a bit of LED camp lighting on hand when you need it too, to let you see what you’re doing as you’re climbing into bed at night. It even lets you read a book at night in your rooftop tent – now that’s a great way to fall asleep!

  1. ADDING EXTERNAL LED CAMP LIGHTS OR WORK LIGHTS

The third upgrade for a Kings grand tourer roof top tent is to make use of the accessory channel down the sides and the rear of the roof top tent to mount external LED camp lights. The accessory channel uses a standard M8 mounting track, meaning you can slide M8 bolts into the channel and use them as a way to easily mount lights to the side of the rooftop tent. That means being able to flood your campsite with bright LED camplights at night – now that’s a game changer!

  1. THE ULTIMATE GRAND TOURER ROOFTOP TENT UPGRADE – ADDING AN AWNING

We’ve saved the best for last! The number one modification you can make to your Kings aluminium rooftop tent  is to use a set of genuine awning mounts to add an awning! Many campers add a King Wing awning to their rooftop tent which wraps around the left hand side and the rear of the rooftop tent. This in turn lets you mount the entry ladder on the right hand side of the Grand Tourer tent, and gives you the best of both worlds – an amazing bedroom upstairs, and a fantastic sheltered camp kitchen and living area downstairs! You can also further upgrade your rooftop tent by adding a Kings instant Ensuite shower tent to the front right corner of the grand tourer roof top tent – it fits perfectly and rounds out the setup amazingly well.

Like we said earlier, you can always make a good thing better, and these easy DIY upgrades for rooftop tents will let you customise your Grand Tourer to build your dream camp setup. And of course when you grab your camping gear from 4WD Supacentre, you know you’re getting the best deal in town!
