Want a go-anywhere camper trailer? Check out the Adventure Kings MT1

March 13, 2021   |   By Cahn Turner The MT1 is tough enough to take on any terrain!

These days there are trailers out there called ‘off-road models’ but that’s a bit of a stretch – they’re basically a box trailer with a beam axle and they really don’t offer the features or toughness you need for a real adventure. On the other hand, the Adventure Kings MT1 is a go anywhere camping trailer. Packed with the features you need to head off-road and camp for days or weeks at a time it tows amazingly well and will follow you just about anywhere. Whether it’s the off-road suspension, grippy mud tyres or almost perfect weight distribution, the MT1 camper trailer is ahead of the game.

Arguably the most important part of any trailer is the chassis itself and the MT1 isn’t lacking in that department! The chassis is made with 150mm by 50mm by 3.5mm steel tube that is the same size used on some 3.5 tonne caravans! Importantly the draw bar and main chassis rails are continuous, rather than being two sections stacked and welded down both sides – this adds a huge amount of rigidity and strength to the entire trailer. The chassis uses thick 4mm steel gussets for even more strength and the entire assembly is hot dipped galvanised. The MT1’s chassis is designed to reduce stress concentrations under dynamic loading scenarios. Using the latest modelling software, consulting with industry experts & Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure it complies with all relevant ADRs & VSB1 standards. Designed in house by the team in Brisbane, the MT1 Camping Trailer has been designed to go anywhere in Australia. The standard tow hitch is an awesome ARK XO Xtreme offroad 3.5 tonne hitch bolted to a super strong 12mm hitch plate. Then you can even option a Cruisemaster DO35 as an upgrade for serious off-roading.

Along with the chassis, another key feature of a tough off-road trailer is the suspension and the MT1 trailer has that covered. To live up to the name of a go anywhere trailer the MT1 is fitted with rugged off-road ready suspension. It uses independent swing arms with coil springs and twin shock absorbers that have been specifically chosen and engineered to work perfectly when the MT1 is being towed on or off road. The shock open and closed lengths and valving were designed specially by Oztec to suit the MT1. Twin large bore 63mm shock cylinders hold more oil, keeping shock temperature low, avoiding fade and maintaining high performance even in the harshest conditions. In short, the Oztec “Outback Series” 63mm custom designed shock absorbers ensure the MT1 can tackle miles and miles of off-roading without overheating or any significant drop in performance. The trailing arms even have 3mm thick bash plates for Combined with the 265/75R16 Goodride SL366 Mud Terrain tyres on 16×8 0 offset alloy 4WD rims and 10” electric brakes you’re covered in any conditions. There’s even a full size spare on a swing away tyre carrier!

With such a heavy duty chassis and suspension you might expect the MT1 to be heavy over all, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! The base trailer with DO35 hitch, AL-KO jockey wheel, fire extinguisher, awning bracket, spare tyre on the swing away carrier and a 100AH AGM battery it weighs just 870kg, which means it offers a massive 630kg of payload. Even if you add all the options, fit two batteries, fill the 100L water tank, pack a fully loaded 90L dual Zone fridge,  strap down two jerry cans and a gas bottle and fit a Grand Tourer RTT you’re still able to pack around 200kg of extra camping gear! But you’ll hardly need to when you have all your food, drinks and camp accommodation sorted!

Even if you did manage to find a box trailer that had a proper chassis and suspension, there’s no way it could match the MT1 for practicality and storage options. The MT1 camper trailer offers up to a huge 3700 litres of internal volume. There’s the main compartment, a kitchen compartment, an electrical compartment and a front tool box. The main compartments all feature gas strut assisted gull wing doors so access is quick and easy. Then the MT1 is customisable to suit anyone’s needs – you can choose a variety of optional storage features to make it even better. There’s a pull out combination kitchen and fridge slide, a pantry with fold down bench, a rear drawer with dividers and a roof cross bar kit that allows you to fit a roof top tent for a comfy place to sleep. Of course there are so many ways to make the MT1 even better for your off-road adventures, whether it’s updating the 12V system for more deep cycle battery capacity or fitting a quick setup Roof Top Tent from factory.

You can’t have an off-road go anywhere camper trailer without some key camping features either! The MT1 has a built in 100L water tank that’s connected to a 12V pressure pump so you can simply turn on the optional kitchen tap and water pumps out. 100 litres of clean drinking water is enough to keep a whole family happy and hydrated for days or weeks! Similarly, the included 12V system will keep everyone happy with an included 100Ah battery and the option of up to two 138Ah batteries and a pure sine wave inverter for running those luxuries from home while you’re out in the bush. Finally the MT1 has a clever adjustable-height awning bracket system which means you can fit a side awning or a full wraparound 270° awning for maximum shade and shelter to make camp even more comfortable.

If you want to head off-road, forget the box trailer that will rattle itself to pieces or the overly complicated camper trailers with more canvas and poles than you know what to do with. The Adventure Kings MT1 camper trailer is a go anywhere, do anything trailer that is built to tackle the toughest tracks in Australia and offers features and options that mean you will be comfortable at camp anywhere you go.
