When you are brand new to the 4WDing fraternity, things get daunting very quickly, but first things first, welcome to the most oddball bunch of adventurers getting around out there.

Driving a 4WD offroad will spark on of the most addictive lifestyles you could ever be a part of, and owning a 4×4 opens up a whole new world of adventures you may never of thought possible these range from going from a drive up through your local state forests all the way through to camping out in the bush or on the beach.

When starting, it can be a little bit overwhelming trying to wade your way through all the different 4×4  upgrades and accessories that are available out there. This is why we’ve put together a bit of a guide to help you decide on some of the types of 4×4 accessories and equipment that are vital to having a great time offroad!

The honest truth is, you don’t need the biggest, toughest 4WD out there to have a lot of fun – you just need a handful of essentials and you are ready to roll!

Here is our definitive guide to six essential bits of Adventure Kings gear you must add to your new 4WD;

1.Purpose made Tyre Deflator

If you get no further through our list of must have offroad essentials when it comes to 4x4s, this one is basically a law!

Heading out unprepared into the bush can be dangerous, our golden rule for getting further offroad is to let a bit of air out of your tyres, to ensure you enhance your 4WD’s footprint and give yourself the ability to drive through stuff that others might not even try.

Not only does letting your tyres down give you better traction, if you let your tyres down a bit when you’re off-road, then they’ll last longer by letting your sidewalls flex over the tough stuff you will prevent your rubber from slipping!

PLUS you’ll get stuck less because the tyres have a bigger contact patch with the ground and will have better traction.

Letting your tyres down is critical, so it is important to use a purpose made tyre deflator like the Kwiky tyre deflator or the Adventure Kings 3 in 1 tyre deflator to drop your pressures down to around 26psi when you’re out in the bush or about 16psi on the beach.

2.Quality Air Compressor

What goes down must come up! Because we have roads between home and the start and end of your favorite tracks, to keep your tyres in a good state you absolutely need to pump them back up to highway pressures again when all the fun is done!!

It’s a great idea to not rely on petrol station air compressors as they are unreliable, inaccurate and also often out of order.

We suggest you always carry your own portable air compressor like one of the Thumper MKII air compressors or the Thumper Max air compressor for instant compressed air on the tracks!

Being able to easily re-inflate your tyres or even for trackside air pressure to reseat a broken tyre bead, a 12v compressor is a great idea and will ensure you never have to wait for ages in the hot sun for the servo air compressor hose to become available, ever again.

3.Reliable Recovery Kit
If you have delusions of just driving through everything, snap out of the daydream, and realise that getting stuck is simply a part of taking your 4WD off-road.

In fact, getting stuck can be a lot of fun – (only) if you have the ability to get out again! You should always carry a rated  4×4 recovery kit, Including everything from a snatch strap and rated shackles at a minimum.

Even if you’re stuck all by yourself, if someone offers to assist you with a recovery then good practice states you need to use your gear to get pulled out. It’s also good form to use your own recovery gear if you’re stuck – that way you won’t leave muddy recovery gear in the back of someone else’s 4WD, on top of that you also owe them a cold beer, either out of your 12v Fridge, or at the next country pub!

Particularly if they were nice enough to stop and help you out of trouble!

4.Quality Steel Roof Racks
Your 4WD may be big, but even the biggest trucks are lacking sometimes when it comes to storage when you are hitting the tracks!

By adding a set of Steel roof racks to your 4WD you easily and quickly expand your storage space to include all of your bulky campsite essentials that can’t be crammed in behind the back seats!

It doesn’t matter if you only get to go camping once a month, by installing a reliable and sturdy 4×4 roof rack you will find it very useful just about every day from doing runs to the hardware store, helping your mates move home, making tip runs, and just about anything else you can imagine –  Adding a roof rack to your 4WD will be one of the best upgrades you could ever do. Particularly because it lets you add the next piece of gear…

5.Solid performance Awning!
If you’ve got a 4×4 roofrack, then you absolutely must add an Adventure Kings Awning to the side of it!

The massive range of 4×4 awnings available from 4WD Supacentre are fantastic for adding instant shade and shelter to the sides and rear of your 4×4.

They easily mount to the entire range of steel 4×4 roofracks, and  with simple setup they can be open in just a matter of seconds, in any location you could possibly want to setup shelter

Perfect for when you are at camp, on a jobsite, down at the park with kids, anywhere!

We love our awnings and we’re confident that by adding a 4WD awning to your vehicle you will be in love with yours too, and find a use for it just about every chance you get!

6.Offroad Navigation

Being the modern world we all rely on technology these days, as much as we try to deny it and escape and just because heading off-road means leaving the comfort of phone reception doesn’t mean you have to go back to a ring binder full of old stained paper maps!

Modern tech has provided us with the ultimate solution to good old fashioned maps, with the reliable and accurate VMS Touring 700HDX  GPS units.

These powerful in car navigators come pre-loaded with highly detailed topographic maps that cover the entire country and don’t require any phone reception to load where you and the convoy are.

The VMS Touring 700HDX even comes with on-road navigation built in,  so you can use your GPS navigator every day of the week!

With all of these stingers, there is no reasons why you can’t hit the tracks more often, thanks to your gear from 4WD Supacentre and Adventure Kings!
