Leave no trace at your favorite campsite!

Escaping the fast pace of ordinary life, can lead us to the feeling of freedom and being somewhat self-reliant and independent from modern society. This satisfies a desire for many for getting in touch with our roots!

Whilst escaping the rush and hurry of everyday life, many forget the reasons we come out into the bush, and bring a plethora of digital screens, loud music, and rubbish with them to these remote areas.

Rubbish poses a serious threat to not only the aesthetics of your campsite but also to wildlife that may not understand what plastic is. The current estimate is that there will be more plastic by weight than ocean life, in the world’s seas and oceans by the year 2050.

So next time you and your mates are escaping the city, remember what you are escaping for and follow these 5 tips to making sure your campsite has been left in a better state than when you showed up!

1.Pack it in – Pack it out!

If you have the room to bring your food in packaging, out on the tracks, whether it is to keep your meat fresh, or to stop your chips going stale, scrunch up the bag, and bring it with you.

If you bring rubbish with you, there is no reason you cannot bring it home (or at least back to town…) with you!

2.Dirty Gear Bag

A simple trick to keeping your campsite clean and tidy is to install an Adventure Kings Dirty Gear Bag on your spare tyre. By fitting one of these affordable and durable, waterproof bins to the rear of your vehicle makes bringing home rubbish, no matter how smelly not an issue.

By lining your Adventure Kings dirty gear bag with a standard bin liner, you can easily bin all of your empties and dirty plastic packaging as soon as you use them!

3.Stash your empties!

By stashing your empty cans and bottles for the recycling bin when you get home, you not only keep your campsite clean. But by recycling, you are helping the environment use less resources to produce materials.

When shopping for a camping trip we choose cans instead of bottles, for 2 main reasons. Firstly you can fit more in your Adventure Kings Refrigerator and secondly you can crush cans meaning they take up a lot less space inside your cabin!

4.Precook your meals!

By precooking your meals at home and sealing the whole meal in a sealed packet using an Adventure Kings vacuum sealer you can seal in the freshness of your favorite meals, and cooking preparation is as simple as boiling water, immersing the sealed packet and when it is hot enough, cutting open the packet and serving. This minimizes waste on the tracks and makes bringing your rubbish home with you as simple as rolling up the waste plastic!

This not only speeds up the eating process but also minimizes the amount of rubbish you need to pack home with you!

5.Pick up all the rubbish in the area before you leave.

It may not have been you or your group that left the rubbish there, but if you leave the campsite in a spotless condition, others will be less likely to leave there rubbish there too. This means the next time you come back next time, there maybe won’t be any rubbish to clean up at all, making your favourite campsite, even better to visit! we always bring a handful of rubbish bags to make sure we can hygienically stash the rubbish until we are back in town!

This is much easier said than done, but if you try to follow these rules closely, you and others will have a much nicer time escaping the clutter of the city, and be able to connect with nature a lot more easily!
