How to get offroad more often!

With a handful of pro tips, you can get out and explore more thanks to the right attitude, so read along and we will provide you with a handful of tips to get yourself out camping with your friends a lot more often!

Pick a weekend and commit to it!

By choosing a location to travel too, and by choosing a date that suits you and your friends, you can head out and get offroad more often!

By planning your trips ahead of time, they are more than likely going to happen, particularly if you give enough notice, as a side note, makes sure you don’t postpone trips because one friend cannot make it, otherwise no one will ever get to go!

By being prepared to hit the tracks with a small group you are more than likely going to be able to get out and have a great time offroad!

Be ready to head out at all times!

If you manage to break something on the tracks, fix it as soon as you get home. If you leave things not working, you may make the issue worse, and on top of that you will have to hold off heading out next time because of the work that needs doing!

Another thing to keep in mind is all of the 4WD specific gear you need to get away. By installing a set of Titan Rear Drawers in the back of your 4WD you can always keep a set of tools like the Adventure Kings Bushmechanic tool kit and the Hercules Complete Recovery Kit to make sure you have always got the bits and pieces on hand to hit the tracks, we like to always keep a set of cutlery, plates, bowls and cups, in the back too, because you never know when you need a set of camp eating gear at the ready.

The Bedourie Camp oven also lives in the drawers, always at the ready for an impromptu bush roast, you never know when you’ll need your camping gear, so keeping it stored in the back of your 4WD will make sure it is always at the ready!

Pack the essentials, but don’t confuse yourself with what is essential!

It’s easy to resist heading away, because your 4WD isn’t a dedicated touring rig, but generally touring setups are created through years of experience and trial and error whilst hitting the tracks. Whilst somewhere to sit, something to cook with and a shelter over your head through the evening, are what we need, it can be easy to get swept up in having all of the latest gizmos and gadgets.

A basic setup with an Adventure Kings Awning and an Adventure Kings Big Daddy Double swag with an Adventure Kings Sleeping bag is generally considered one of the best value and easiest to setup campsites on the market and can be arranged all for under $400 and will give a comfortable and warm night on the tracks!

Make a gear list and check it twice!

Every time you head out camping, you should refer to your gear list, this will make sure nothing gets left behind, we find this also allows you to make a cull on gear that you always take but never use.

When you get home from camp, as you unpack, it is important to make sure that you take a note of which bits of gear you used on your trip.

If you get through more than 2 trips without using a particular piece of gear, you should think about not including it on your next trip, obviously this doesn’t include all your emergency gear, such as your Hercules recovery kit, or a comprehensive First Aid Kit like the Survival Vehicle First aid Kit.

But this tip will help you in filtering out all the unnecessary gear we tend to lug along for the ride, for no real reason!
