How do LED’s work and why are they so popular with camping gear!

Starting from the beginning, before LED technology came to be the pinnacle of lighting technology, there were halogen globes, these now old fashioned globes work by running terribly large amounts of electricity through an exotic metal filament such as tungsten, the way this works is by heating up the metal filament with electrical resistance much like how a welder works, except we contain this heat in an inert gas, such as Xenon, or inside a glass bulb.

Much of the energy used in halogen lights is wasted converting into heat instead of light, but for many years this was the best option available, and was also extremely cost effective.

Rewind back to the 60’s a new electrical component called a light emitting diode was developed by modifying existing diodes which are an electrical component that works like a one way valve for electricity, during normal operation when supplied with a suitable current in the right orientation a Light Emitting Diode would emit light of a predetermined colour, in a way that is extremely energy efficient whilst also creating minimal amounts of heat.

This technology has been developed due to its compact nature and the massive amount of light achievable with minimal available current. However until recent years LED’s were quite expensive to produce.

Through clever development and high demand from the outdoor market, many 4WDers have turned to the technology as a bright and effective solution to both campsite lighting and auxiliary lighting for driving on remote highways!

This brings us to the awesome range of Adventure Kings LED Lights, which help 4WDers campers, boaters, truckies and many more people who at the flick of a switch can have clean white light!

CAMPSITE LIGHTING

Starting with the Adventure Kings LED camping lights, offering a massive range with everything from a setup as simple as a 24 LED battery operated magnetic work light, for the simplest operation. All the way to a fully customizable and expandable comprehensive camp light kit which includes splitters dimmers and 5 individually controllable LED lighting strips mounted in IP65 waterproof bodies for all weather usage!

The benefits to these expandable kits, is that they can be combined with other camping lights for maximum lighting to be suitable for your campsite setup with one being mounted inside your rooftop tent, one or two under the awning, one by your refrigerator and even one in your mates swag for the most vision around camp. You can even add one of the brand new orange LED light strip kits that add an orange frequency of LED lighting to help keep insects away from your campsite!

Campsite lighting offers you the ability to also see what you are doing when you are working under the bonnet or under the car, where seeing what you are doing is critical!

ADDITIONAL VISION OFFROAD!

Whilst you are driving away from the asphalt there are countless hazards that can find themselves in your way, from wildlife to fallen trees and even deteriorated track surfaces up ahead!

To give yourself the greatest heads up, you need to be able to see as far up the road as is possible, both around the bends and well down the straights, this is why LED spotlights and led light bars have taken the offroad market by storm!

Adventure Kings has recently released some of the most cost effective and high performance aftermarket LED lighting for the front of your vehicle. With the range of Domin8r LED light bars including 22”, 32” and 42” all models  featuring triple rows of high focus and deep throw white LED light with twin shared reflectors on the peripheral to throw LED lighting way out to the sides of the tracks and around the approaching corner to see wildlife and any damage to the tracks you may not be able to see clearly.

The Domin8r 42” light bar has the capability of throwing out massive amounts of light, being independently tested to output a massive 13,100 lumens of light and having a n effective range out to 327m, with a lightbar alone you are able to output stacks of bright light to see what is coming.

For those who find themselves driving ant much faster speeds on long and straight tracks like in the desert, a set of LED spotties are definitely a better option, the BRAND NEW Domin8r 9” spotlights outputs a massive 22,970 lumens and has a maximum effective range of over 850m which is incredible, whilst it doesn’t share the spread pattern of a new technology LED lightbar, you can add a set of spotlight covers to spread the light all over the tracks, whilst keeping one of the pair uncovered for improved light throw.

In our opinion LED technology has changed the way that 4WDers get out camping, and without the ability to project light long distances or easily, and energy efficiently control light around the campsite, and as 4WDers we look forward to the future capabilities of the technology.
