Getting your camping gear primed and ready for the coming cold weather camping season!

When you are getting primed and ready for the winter season, it’s a good idea to prep your camp cookware and fireplace, in anticipation of some slow cooked campfire meals and sharing stories huddled around a mini roaring inferno!!

First up you are going to have to inspect the seasoned coating on your campsite cook wear ready to cook up a storm at camp!

To inspect your seasoning you are simply inspecting the inside of your pan, looking for any chips or holes in the dark resin like coating on the metal, if you have exposed metal showing you will probably need to re-season your camp oven!

Re seasoning your Bedourie Camp Oven is a simple process and when done properly offers a non-stick and rust proof surface. Perfect for trackside meals.

The first step is to give your camp oven a good scrub down with a scouring pad and warm soapy water. Once all of the old coating has been removed, you can give your oven a good rinse, and dry it off with a tea towel, at this stage we like to chuck ours in the oven at around 100°C to dry it off completely, and prevent it from getting light surface rust.

Seasoning is the process of coating your cookware with oil and heating at a high heat using fancy science to turn the oil coating into a polymer. Not only does the polymer resist your food from sticking but it can also offer plenty of corrosion resistance.

To do this simply take your (cooled) dry camp oven, a paper towel and some cooking oil (whatever you usually use to cook with is fine) and bake for an hour or two at around 180°C-200°C this will allow the oil to polymerise and turn into a nano stick proof coating that provides plenty of corrosion resistance…. Pretty cool huh!

The next prep you may need to do is ensuring that, you have a 12v system hooked up to handle your 12v Adventure Kings Fridge Freezer, this will enable your setup to be able to cook the freshest ingredients no matter what the weather is doing and will allow you to easily have access to frosty cold refreshments.

The next step to getting your campsite setup for winter, is to pull out your Adventure Kings Camp Oven/Stove and give it a test run in the backyard to refamiliarize yourself with getting it running!

When starting your camp fire inside your Adventure Kings Camp Oven/Stove you will need a handful of small tinder to get things started, you won’t need fire starters if you have a handful of toilet paper, dryer lint, or have access to dry grass to get things started. Along with your small pile of tinder, you will need graduated amounts of dry kindling, which we usually create by splitting some larger logs down. Kindling generally catches alight much easier than a full-sized log but will be able to get enough heat to light your logs on fire.

With the internal heat that you create within your Adventure Kings Camp Oven/Stove you will easily be able to get enough heat to efficiently burn all of the wood that is present. Unlike a fire started on the ground, you can also control the temperature of the flames easily by adjusting both the flue adjuster and propping open the door to allow more or less airflow!

With a more efficient burn you can get much more out of your campfire wood, staying warm for much longer, and also taking the stinging smoke up and out of your campsite!

The last piece of the puzzle for getting your camp cookware sorted is to refill your LPG gas bottle, and give your Gasmate Voyager Portable Barbeque a final cleanup to get it ready for trackside lunches!

The Voyager BBQ offers excellent temperature control and can bake, fry at the twist of a knob, so is a favorite for campers looking for fast meals with minimal prep of fuss!

With some of these tips you should be pumped up to get out camping this winter season, prepped with knowledge and skills to stay warm and cook tasty hot meals on the tracks!
