Flexible solar panels – the way forward!

Say goodbye to fragile hard solar panels, and hello to Adventure Kings new range of flexible solar panels!

Solar technology has been touted as the way forward for all of mankind, with the ability to harness the powerful UV rays free from the sun, with more and more investment into the technology, the availability to be fully off grid is something we all desire, and if you didn’t you probably wouldn’t be reading this.

In recent years the technology we use for solar power has jumped ahead in leaps and bounds, the most recent update to solar is the brand new and extremely affordable semi-flexible solar panels, these are designed to be mounted directly to hard top canopies, hard canopy roof top tents and even on the roof of caravans and camper trailers. The latest release in the Adventure Kings Solar Panel range is engineered to withstand salt  water environments and not degrade or corrode like similar units on the market, this is due to its fully IP67 rated junction boxes, additionally the panel itself is made from ETFE a highly flexible and corrosion resistant polymer, this allows the semi flexible solar panel range to be bent a total of 30° which is massive considering standard panels cannot flex AT ALL!

The flexibility of the panels is not the only beneficial feature of the new semi flexible panel, one of the additional benefits is the low profile of the setup, as the ETFE is the structure of the panel, it means that unlike traditional style panels you don’t require an extruded aluminium frame to support the panel, this means the panel is mountable on locations that present to the wind and would create drag iand reduce a vehicles fuel economy.

The performance of the panels is nothing to be scoffed at either, to compare apples and apples, the 160W Solar Panel and the 160W semi-Flexible panel both offer 160w of charging power, this is equivalent to 8.7 amps of charging power however the biggest difference between the two is the 60mm difference in width between the 160W folding panel, and the Semi flexi variety.

So along with the low profile for reduced drag, in permanently mounted applications the equivalent outputs as well as the flexibility makes the 160W semi-flexible solar panels one of the best upgrade for a camping rig that you could choose.

Every solar panel outputs a variable output depending on the sunlight that is available, this is where a solar regulator comes in handy. The native output of a solar panel will typically be up around 20v usually this is far too high for a vehicles 12v battery setup, a solar regulators job is to reduce the voltage down to a much more manageable voltage for your setup which is more around 13.5v.

Different conditions require a different setup, and different power needs will need more or less solar.
