Fraser Island or K’gari  that it is now respectfully called is a beautiful sand island of the coast of Queensland Australia. This beautiful beast is a Four Wheel Drivers dream, with intensely boggy sand and various rocky tracks it is truly a heavy for series Four Wheel Drivers. However it’s also home to some of the most stunning landscapes in the entire world. This here is a tale of four mates Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve and their adventurous trip to the wonderful K’gari   island.

It a beautiful summers morning, Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve can be seen packing the final items to their MT1 Camper trailer. Whilst doing so the boys quickly have a rundown of their planned trip and thus the gear they’ve packed for it, specifying what is needed and what is a luxury. This soon turns into a heated friendly of how much beer is too much beer.

Arriving at In-skip point the boys let their tires down with a kwiky tyre deflator, whilst doing so they each discuss the purpose of airing down and begin to share a few lighthearted stories of being “bogged at Inskip”. Robbo in fact explains how he once got so badly bogged he was stuck there for three hours on his own. Only to eventually realize he had his vehicle still in 2WD.  

After the barge Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve make their way to the first camp site for the trip. Dale the “dad”of their friendship group begins to lecher the boys on the necessity particularly on K’gari Island for planning your trip around tide times and the differences between hard and soft sand.

Arriving at a beautiful camp site (catch mango) the boys begin setting up and begin to admire their beautiful Camper trailer setup. Once completed they kick their feet up have a few drinks under the awning and watch a famous catch mango sunset so beautiful it was fit for a postcard.

Its dinner time, Fraser Island’s has a campfire band so luckily the Dale came prepared and brought with them a trusty Kings 12volt Adventure Oven. Dale then finds this the perfect time for to teach the rest of the boys how to cook a mouth-watering camp oven meal. With full bellies Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve finish off a great day stare gazing in their camp chairs and swapping childhood family camping stories.  

The next day, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping, so the boys makes the most of it and heads to the famous Lake McKenzie. While Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve we’re having a blast on the water using their SUPs and kayaks they met a local how gave them some background of some Fraser Island history, particularly explaining the importants of the recent name change.

Its time for some beach side tucker. After some fun in the sun the boys thought they’d earned themselves a quality lunch. Under the awning and on top a mesh floor the boys whip out the gasmate voyager portable gas BBQ and cook up a storm.

Soon after the boys decided that’d had enough fun and it was time for some work, so they grab their fishing rods out of their heavy duty camper trailer and casted their lines into the iconic Platypus Bay. A picturesque Platypus Bay sunset, set over the boys as they reel in some absolute beauties using the travel rod and reel. The boys find another local and discussed some information of Platypus Bay both about its great fishing opportunities and if in season the ability to whale watch.

You can’t get much fresher than this. The crew setup up at Waddy Point for the night and begin to fillet the fresh beauties they just pulled from the sea. You can’t beat a fresh fish cooked over a fire so luckily Dale had them covered. Dale cracked out a camp stove and ran it using heat beads thus having a completely legal self-contained fire. With the camp stove now crackling away the boys sit back and crack a few cold ones in their camp chairs.

The next day Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve absolutely jam back their day full of adventures.  From walking the towering sand grown trees of the Central Station boardwalk and the centuries old subtropical rainforest of Pine Valley. Then they cruise down the infamous 75-mile beach know as Australian’s beach highway and legally considered  part of the bruise highway. After that they boys crack out the water sports gear as and floated down the crystal-clear waters of Eli Creek on their stand up paddle boards. For a bit of history, they explore the rustic ruins of the Maheno Shipwreck washing ashore in 1935 the Maheno was once a luxury cruise liner but is now an iconic part of Fraser Island. Adding a splash of colour to their adventure the boys marvelled at the breathtaking technicoloured sand cliffs and the dreamtime stories that come with it. For some added adventure the boys trekked a sandy trail for a refreshing dip in the emerald-green oasis of Lake Wabby. At Indian Heads the most easterly point of the island, the crew spot some spectacular marine life at the base of the headlands consisting of turtles and stingrays. The waves began to crash against the rocks creating an iconic sight as the boys floated blissfully in the picturesque Champagne Pools.

The next day, Dale, Dave, Robbo and Steve caught the barge back to mainland. After unpacking the camper trailer the boys had dinner at Robbo’s house sitting around the dinner table having a good laugh and discussing they favourite parts of the trip and how they can’t wait to do it all again.
