One of my favorite things to enjoy whilst camping is a tasty camp cooked meal, after a hard day’s adventure. There’s nothing that seems to stir up my appetite more, then a day full of fun in the hot sun. I can’t explain it, but I think there’s something about enjoying your meal outside by the fire, surrounded by friends, that somehow just makes it taste better. There’s such an array of camp cooking gear available in the market, that whether you’re a self-proclaimed chef or a simple two-minute noodle specialist they’ll be a piece of camp cooking gear to suit, not only your needs but also your personal preference. This article will provide a summary of the camp cooking gear available from the very basic to luxurious. So, no matter your skill level or cooking preference, this guide will help you find some camp cooking gear that best suits your needs.

Camping Kettle:

To kick things off I think it’s important to start with the basics, and what can be more essential at camp than a nice hot cuppa. To get the most from your camp kettle look for a model that features a tough stainless steel construction. This will assure its suitable for both placing on your gas stove and even on the open fire. Waiting by your stove or fire for the kettle to boil is a waist of your time at camp, so this may seem like a no brainer but make sure your camping kettle features a built in whistle that goes off when the waters boiled, so you can set and forget it. Not only that but a super handy feature that’s easily overlooked, is in fact a foldable handle. Having a foldable handle on your camp kettle allows you the best of both worlds. Once raised you have a large sturdy handle high above the hot kettle, but then when simply folded down you have a compact kettle ready to be packed away.

Hanging Pantry:

Before anything else, preparation is the key to success” are the famous words spoken by Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone.  These words couldn’t RING more true than when it comes to cooking. Whether you’re in your own home, a commercial kitchen or out at camp, having your cooking ingredients at the ready in a convenient organized location is essential to cooking a good meal. Hence why I think a hanging pantry is a terrific camp kitchen accessory. Rather than bending over riffling through storage containers, a hang up pantry offers convenient eye level access to your frequently used ingredients. Design to be hung from your gazebo or car awning quality hanging pantries are constructed from heavy duty canvas that can be easily folded and packed away when not in use.

Camp Fire BBQ Plate:

Cooking over the roar open fire is what grass roots camping is all about, so if that’s your style then you certainty can’t go past a quality camp fire BBQ plate. An open fire BBQ plate will offer you a sturdy and stable flat surface ready to cook whatever your heart or should I say stomach desires. For the best versatility, look for a fire grill plate that features both a flat solid hot plate and an open grill section. So, you can heat your stir fry whilst char grilling your mouth watering steak at the same time.

Rotisserie:

To take your camp fire cooking up serval taste notches I’d recommend investing in a portable rotisserie. Slowly rotating your juicy roast over the fire, a battery powered rotisserie not only generates an extremely even cook but also allows you to bast the roast in juicy wholesome flavors. Which will result in some of the most tendour meat you’ve ever tasted. Rather than constantly stoking the fire look for a model that features and adjustable height level. That way you can leave the fire be and alter the heat level by simply adjusting the height of the meat from the fire.

Charcoal Starter:

To best complement your portable rotisserie, you can’t go past a simple charcoal starter. If you’re like me, you probably don’t start cooking until you’re already starving. So, waiting around for there to be enough hot coals to cook is an agenizing process, that’s where a handy hot coal starter comes in. A charcoal starter is a miniature chimney style fire pit, designed to supercharge the heating process of your coals. Then once your coals are nice and hot all you have to do is pour them out into the open fire and your ready to start cooking. To truly get the most out of your charcoal starter they work best when used with heat beads.

Folding Fire Pit & Fire Pit Grill:

With wild fires increasingly becoming a serious threat to our beautiful landscape, fire restrictions at campsites are rightly so becoming increasingly more strict. Thus, at more and more campsites open camp fires are banned and the use of a fire pit is required. Hence why I recommend keeping a folding fire pit in your vehicle, whether you use it every time or keep it just in case. The folding flat design makes them easy to keep underneath all your gear in the back of your rig. However, if you thought cooking over an open fire was simple well with the addition of a fire pit grill cooking over a folding fire pit is even easier. A fire pit grill locks into place over a folding fire pit creating a fully self contained unit that can take care of your cooking needs. Then once your meals done simply remove the fire pit grill and you have yourself a fully self contained open fire to roast marshmallows over whilst sharing good old stories.
