With so many vehicle electrical accessories out there, its sometimes hard to know which ones are worth your time and money. So, in this article I’ll walk through some of my favourite and most used electrical products I use for my very own personal vehicle.

You can’t go wrong with having a portable Lithium Jump Starter always in your car. Trust me the number of times a Compact Lithium Jump Starter has saved my behind, I think its worth its weight in gold. Due to its compact size, I simply keep a portable Lithium Jump Starter in the glove box of all three of my cars. With a rating of 1000A it has the power to jump start a V8 diesel, so it has got well and truly enough juice for your everyday needs.

“Better to have it — and not need it — then need it — and not have it” is my Dad’s favourite saying. As this has been drilled into me since birth, I cant help but try and prepare for every situation when packing for an adventure. That’s why as well as my portable Lithium Jump Starter I always like to have a trusty pair of good old fashioned Jumper Leads. Due to the fact Jump Starter can’t go flat there always good to have around in case you forget to charge your Compact Lithium Jump Starter. However, the main benefit is if your really need to charge up your battery and not simply jump start it, because maybe your alternator died in that deep river crossing, then a quality set of Jumper cables is what you need.

With unfortunately so many people these day using their mobile phones whilst driving the number of car accidents are becoming more and more frequent. Due to this fact, the use of a Dash Camera is become increasingly important. A quality Dash Camera will help you prove to your insurance company who was at fault in the event of a crash. A Dash Cam is extremely helpful in the event of a dishonest driver or even a simple misunderstanding. In fact, some insurance companies offer lower premiums if you prove you have a Dash Camera installed in your vehicle.

Another great everyday electrical product for your vehicle is a Heads Up Display or HUD for short. A Heads Up Display works like a movie protector and using refection to display your vehicle speed onto your windscreen. Personally, I love my Heads Up Display as the position I like to have my steering wheel and seat in, actually obstructs my view from my factory speedometer. When I’m going off road, I fit to my vehicle 35 inch mud tires so due to the increase circumference of my wheels my speedometer is actually then inaccurate. So, an easy solution was to install a Heads Up Display, due to the fact a HUD is calculated via satellite the speed is always accurate no matter what size tire I’m running. Another note, personally I much prefer and even find it safer, not having to look down to check my speed. As the Heads Up Display protector the speed onto the windscreen I feel I’m much more conscious of my speed at all times.

One of my favourite pieces of electrical gear I’ve ever installed onto my car is without a doubt my Reverse Camera Kit. Your vehicle’s factory revision mirror and side mirrors can only do so much when seeing what’s behind your vehicle. Especially on an uneven off track, vehicle mirrors often have various blind spots that can cost you a nasty dint in the back of your rig. Not only that but the sad fact is that small kids are extremely hard to see whilst reversing as they fall perfectly into your vehicle’s factory blind spot. The even sadder fact is that the stats show that kids are most likely to be reversed over in your home driveway. So, investing in a Reverse Camera Kit is beyond well and truly worth it. For me personally due to a bad injury I find it difficult to spin around for a look whilst reversing my vehicle. So, a Reverse Camera Kit is a great solution as it alleviates this issue completely.

Over the years of owning various vehicles and going on various adventures I’ve become out of necessity quite handy with fixing vehicles. In saying that though I need the most help I can get, hence why I Love my Engine Data Scanner. All you have to do is plug it in under your dash to your vehicles electronic port and the Engine Data Scanner will scan your vehicle and give you a report of and issues and engine codes. If find this super helpful as once I’ve received this info, I can then jump onto to my trusty friend Google or YouTube and find out how to fix this issue. But then once I’ve had a cheeky google if I realise its way to big of a fix for me, I then know exactly what type of mechanic I need to take my car to. An Engine Data Scanner can also do various other features like function as a trip computer for your vehicle or even monitor fuel rail pressure and absolute throttle position.

Last but certainly not least is a UHF Radio, having a UHF Radio installed in your vehicle can be a true godsent when you’re in a pinch. One time Four Wheel Driving with my brother in one car, we went though a massive bog hole and got stuck. Not to worry we had a winch, but then his car completely died and shut off so the winch no longer worked. Luckily the UHF Radio did, so we jump on the line and called out for help, moments later we where being puled out by a top notch bloke who was close by. So I definitely recommend having a UHF Radio in your vehicle.
