Brisbane to Townsville Road-trip Part 2

If you haven’t already before reading this, make sure you check out Brisbane to Townsville Road-trip Part 1. If have already read it well welcome back and I’m so glad you enjoyed the first instalment. I hope part two lives up to your expectations.

After only an hour into our three hour drive from Seventeen Seventy to Capricorn we were once again well and truly ready for some lunch. In the location we found ourselves in there weren’t any service stations or road house for at least other 40 minute drive, due to the fact we were starving we simply couldn’t wait.  Therefore, we decided to pull over and just setup for some lunch on the side of the road. We found a nice spot just ahead that allowed us enough room to be safely away from the road. However, the ground was steaming hot and none of us had shoes on. Thankfully Josh grabbed the mesh floor he’d packed and lay it down underneath his car’s awning. We’d been taking it in turns to be in charge of music. This time it was DJ John who was the boss of the Bluetooth Speaker. Completely chuffed with himself he started blasting the tunes, I don’t think we even got into a minute of John’s filthy dubstep music before the seven of us simultaneously began roasting him for his bad music taste. So, the Bluetooth Speaker duties we quickly taken from DJ John. After stuffing our faces with some freshly made salad rolls we were full as a centipede’s sock drawer. So, we packed the food back in the 12volt fridge and hit the road.

When we finally got to Capricorn Caves and we had some time to kill before our adventure cave tourer. So, we rolled out the car awning again and grabbed the camp chairs. It was then we realised we we’re missing one. After searching all the vehicles Liam realised, he’d left his camp chair on the side of the road where we had lunch. The rest of us being the good friends we are, burst at laughing at the thought of Liam going the rest of the trip without a camp chair. Dave piped up and said, “Don’t worry bro have this” and handed him the pet bed. At the point we couldn’t control ourselves, most of us were legitimately on the floor laughing. After a good while, Lewis suddenly realised the cave tour guide was standing there staring at us. None of knew how long he’d been there but he certainly was confused.

As Jerry the tour guide started leading us further and further down into the caves, he started going over how this tour is extremely difficult and claustrophobic. It wasn’t long then that the boys had clue together that I had in fact stitched them up. Before entering the cave, it was such a hot day even under the car awning John was using his tent fan to blow air straight onto his face. However, once we descended into the cave it was a crisp cool temperature. The tourer was amazing, we crawled through hole so tight you had to go arms first in a drive position and then proceed to wiggle. After that tunnel I was pretty please I remember to bring the Shower and Shower Tent. One of the tunnels was completely pitched black for 10 meters. Due to the bats that are nesting in the cave for that section we weren’t even allowed to use torches.  So, as you may have guessed I loved it and so did half of us however John, Lewis, Nick and Josh were not too thrilled about it. Once we got out of the caves and back to camp, they soon recovered and actually looked back fondly on the experience.

As we stated to set up camp for the third time this trip, John began putting up his swag as he grabbed out his Self Inflating Mattress that he uses instead of the included 70mm foam mattress the swag comes with. He noticed he was missing the value, after frantically searching all his gear and the cars he still couldn’t find it. Us boys were baffled as the Self Inflating Mattress nozzle comes with a strap to assure you don’t lose it. It was then John remember he removed the value because he was afraid it might get lost. So naturally we again broke out into extremely loud laughter at the shear irony of the situation and stupidity of our good mate. Poor old John had nothing to sleep on that night other than his trusty sleeping bag. So, he emptied his entire clothes bag into the swag and use them as a make shift mattress. That wasn’t the only DIY project of the night, because of his lost camp chair Liam had to sit on the floor. After a while of all of us chilling around the fire he became fed up with the ground and tried to build his own camp chair. Using the Aluminium Roll Up Table we’d been using to prepare food on, and one of the hammocks. He actually managed to build a half decent chair. Later that night the group was feeling bad for John, due to the fact he had to sleep without a mattress that night so we gave in and let him be in charge of the Bluetooth Speaker. A decision we soon regretted as he blasted dubstep all night.

We woke up pretty fresh the next morning, so we were ready to set sail for Arlie Beach.

Arlie Beach is when the true stories began, so to find out what we get up to and hear more of our adventure, look out for Brisbane to Townsville Road-trip Part 3 which will be posted tomorrow.
