THE GOLDEN RULE – AS BIG AS YOUR BUDGET AND YOUR SETUP ALLOWS!

So that’s an overview of how many cans each size of portable car fridge can hold, but there’s a golden rule when it comes to choosing a camping fridge for your own adventures. It comes down to this – buy the biggest your budget and your setup allow! That way, you’re future-proofing your setup, so even if you don’t think that you need such a large fridge now, you’ll always have that capacity in the future, instead of having to sell your fridge and upgrade to a larger one down the track. It’s true that 12v portable fridges run at their most efficient when they’re full, but there are two ways to solve this if you aren’t using your fridge’s full capacity. The first is to fill the empty space with bottles of water – which will add like a thermal sink and keep the entire contents perfectly chilled. The other option is if you have a dual zone camping fridge, you can simply turn off one side when not needed, and then turn it back on when you do need the capacity.
