Gazebos- So good in winter!

While the colder months would normally scare most campers off, winter is one our favourite times of year to head out camping. Kicking back around a roaring fire, rugged up and cosy while enjoying the quietness of the campsite is something we look forward to more than anything else. The main reason why people don’t enjoy winter camping is because more than likely they aren’t properly prepared with the right gear.

An Adventure Kings Gazebo is just about a must-have for any winter outdoor adventure. Here’s why!

Base Camp:
Hands down, the biggest advantage to having a gazebo with you when you head out bush is the fact that you can grab the best spot in the campsite and keep it for yourself! Camping Gazebos give you the ability to leave your campsite completely set up and unattended! This means you can wake up in the morning, have some brekkie, head out and explore for the day and arrive back to your fully set up camp. No stress of losing your spot ever again!
With built in guy rope points, peg holes on each foot and fully adjustable leg height, you can tie your camping gazebo down rain, hail or shine and it’ll be just how you left it when you get back.

Keep Dry:
Keeping dry is one of the easiest and best ways to keep warm while you’re winter camping. Adventure Kings Gazebos are made from ultra-durable 100% waterproof material, making them impervious to the yucky morning dew that would otherwise cover your swag in the morning, making everything wet and soppy. The adjustable legs on the adventure kings camping gazebos also give you the ability to lower the shade as close as possible to your swag, making your campsite even cosier, sealing in as much warmth from your swag as possible while maintaining airflow. This is also beneficial in high wind areas because it will put less pressure on your guy rope points.

Snow proof:
Camping in the snow can go one of 2 ways. The best trip ever or the worst! I can almost guarantee you if you were to ask someone who hates camping in the snow for a good reason as to why they don’t like it, 9/10 times it’s because snow melts, turns slushy and gets through absolutely everything! This is just another reason why having a gazebo with you will get you camping more comfortably in winter than ever before. Just last year, we ran into a huge amount of snow at one of the campsites we were staying at. We pulled into camp late at night, completely buggered from all day driving and I personally was reluctant to set anything up to head to bed other than my swag, but thankfully, saner heads prevailed and we ended up setting up a 6x3m gazebo to keep the snow of the tops of our swags. Let me tell you, after that single night in the snow- I was a complete and utter gazebo fan boy! I woke up cosy and warm with almost no moisture on my swag, the ground was nice and dry and I was able to roll my swag up without my hands freezing over. For those in our crew who didn’t set their swags up under a gazebo or an awning, it was a very different story.

Accessories:
A couple of cost effective ways you can take your gazebo to the next level while winter camping are a mesh floor and a couple of gazebo walls.
First of all, a mesh floor will keep your campsite well insulated from the cold ground and add another layer of protection from moisture- especially if you’re running your swag underneath your gazebo at night.
Another way to take it to the next level is to chuck a couple of gazebo walls around the edges of the gazebo to keep you sheltered from the wind. When rolled up tight, gazebo walls take up less space than a standard water bottle and for a price so low, you’d be mad not to have a couple tucked away in your gazebo bag for every single trip year round.

Easy Setup and Pack down:
Another awesome thing about Gazebos is the fact that they can be set fully set up in under 3 minuets and they can be packed away just as fast. This is absolutely golden when it’s freezing cold because it means you can spend less time setting up and more time sitting around a roaring camp fire.
I can have my 3×3 gazebo completely set up and ready to go in under 2 minuets all by myself. I find that the quickest way to set a gazebo up is to obviously take it out of the bag and stand it upright, then take hold of one corner and walk back while bouncing the gazebo up and down to stop the other legs digging into the ground. Once it gets to the point where I can’t walk any further, I climb underneath the cover of the camping gazebo and push upward on the centre piece. This causes each leg to lift off the ground and the locking mechanism on each leg to slide into position. I then lock all the legs into place and begin adjusting them to whatever height I need. All that’s left to do after this is peg down each guy rope.

Don’t let winter put you off camping- head into one of your local 4wd Supacentre Company Stores and have a look at the range of Adventure Kings Gazebos today! I can almost guarantee they will change the way you go camping forever and you’ll deadest wonder how you ever went camping in winter without one.
