Part 1 of our Coastal campsites series went mental and why wouldn’t it?! Who doesn’t love getting away to one of Australia’s beautiful beaches with the loved one or whole family!

The rest of the campsites featured in this article are the perfect locations along the West Coast or inland states PLUS we also feature some BONUS locations that are ideal for a quick night in an Adventure Kings Swag.

At the very tip of the Dampier Peninsula, north of Broome you’ll find one of Australia’s most unique coastal camping experiences. This is literally where the outback meets the sea, with red dirt cliffs dropping down to pale white sands and crystal clear blue waters. Kooljaman offers a whole host of camping options, from unpowered campsites to fully equipped and powered safari tents. Arguably the best way to end your Kimberley adventure.

GUNN POINT, NT

GPS: 12°10’14″S 130°59’52″E
FEES: Free
FACILITIES: None, fires permitted, pets permitted
ACTIVITIES: 4WDing, beach fishing, quad/dirt biking
SUPPLIES: Darwin
BEST SUITED TO: Top End tourers, local adventurers

A stunning place that you’ve gotta add to your itinerary if you’re wandering up through the Gulf and the Kimberley. It’s about 75km north-west of Darwin, head out through Howard Springs and keep following the road til it turns to dirt, then keep following all the way to the end. Be warned that it’s a very popular spot with the locals and on weekends is full of quad bikes, so mid week is best. If you’re keen to do a little bit of exploring, there’s an old abandoned jail farm up in the scrub behind the beach at the very northern end that’s bloody interesting to check out.

LITTLE DIP, SA

GPS: 37°14’13″S 139°47’50″E
FEES: $15
FACILITIES: Toilets, no fires, no pets
ACTIVITIES: 4WDing, fishing, exploring, kite surfing
SUPPLIES: Robe
BEST SUITED TO: Anyone looking for an off-road fishing adventure

The Robe to Beachport run through the Little Dip Conservation Park is known as one of the toughest beach runs in the country. There are a number of campsites throughout the park, but selecting one behind the dunes will keep you nicely sheltered while still remaining close to the beach. As well as epic 4WDing, Little Dip features some insanely good rock and beach fishing.

BILBUNYA DUNES, WA

BEST SUITED TO: Fishos and 4WDers looking for insane dunes to tackle

Roughly a three hour drive from Esperance you’ll some of the toughest, yet most rewarding beach driving in all of Australia. I’m of course talking about the Bilbunya Dunes, but did you know camping at the base of the dunes is some of the best camping you’ll ever do as well. Try and time your visit during a full moon to really be blown away by the light glowing off the massive sand dunes.

CLOUDY BAY, BRUNY ISLAND, TAS

GPS: 43°27’54”S 147°15’09”E

FACILITIES: Toilets, fires permitted, no pets
ACTIVITIES: 4WDing, fishing, swimming, surfing, bird watching
SUPPLIES: Adventure Bay
BEST SUITED TO:Couples or families looking for a wide range of things to do

Bruny Island is right up there with Tassie’s west coast when it comes to tough 4WDing, and Cloudy Bay is the pick of the island’s campsites. Just getting to this pristine campsite requires a drive along the beach, and once you’re there, there’s loads of activities to keep you occupied. From surfing to fishing and even bird watching, Cloudy Bay is full of things to do – oh, and did we mention the tough 4WDing in the area? What’s really special is when you sit on the beach and look south, you’re looking out at unbroken ocean all the way to Antarctica.

BONUS BEACHES TO ROLL OUT A SWAG

TEEWAH BEACH, QLD

GPS: 26°05’15″S 153°07’10″E
While it’s a super-popular location during peak times, Teewah’s 15km long beachfront camping zone is absolutely sensational. Be prepared to hunt for the best campsite, because just as you think you’ve found the best, you’ll come across one even better!

ELIM BEACH, QLD

GPS: 15°15’43″S 145°16’57″E
Queensland’s Far North is without a doubt a 4WDing and camping Mecca, and Elim Beach is no exception. With nearby tracks that haven’t been driven in years and pristine coastal camping, you’ll wonder why you haven’t heard of this place before.

BLACKSMITH’S BEACH, NSW

GPS: 33°02’29”S 151°40’47”E
Right near Newcastle and just a couple of hours north of Sydney, Blackies is a favourite beach getaway of the 4WD Action crew. Make sure you come prepared, because the sand here is super soft! The pick of the campsites is north of Third Creek.

LIPSON COVE, EYRE PENINSULA, SA

GPS: 34°15’44”S 136°15’38”E
Explore the stunning white beaches, kayak across the crystal clear waters and see or swim with playful dolphins at the stunning Lipson Cove campground. With cracking fishing to boot, the bonus here is that you can have your four legged mates along with you to enjoy it as well!

CHILI BEACH, QLD

GPS: 12°37’52″S 143°25’37″E
Chili Beach isn’t exactly the hardest spot to get to – it’s almost all high-range dirt with a few slow jump-ups – but the fact it’s about a two hour drive east of the PDR means not everyone checks it out. Campsite 8 is the pick of the litter as it’s nicely sheltered – check the map as some are more open than others.

NORTH WEST POINT, MORETON ISLAND, QLD

GPS: 27°02’46″S 153°22’59″E
Everyone always misses North West Point and jumps straight onto the likes of Ben-ewa, Comboyuro Point and other proper facilitated camps sites, but the thing is this one is the best! Just 30m from the beach with cracking views that just can’t be beat!
