NEXT-LEVEL BEACH CAMPING TIPS

March 5, 2021   |   By John Aba A gazebo is the perfect central hub at camp that everyone can hang out under~!

Spring camping is already in full swing and every 4WDer within cooey of the coast will be packing their bucket & spade to head towards the water. And why wouldn’t you? Bung the awning up, cast a line in, sit back with a tinny in hand; life doesn’t get much better this time of year.

If you haven’t already, it’s not too late to book in your next beach escape. And to help out, we’ve put together some next-level beach camping tips, which are guaranteed to make your next seaside adventure a fun, memorable and trouble-free experience.

NO MORE NEED FOR SAND PEGS

Wind can be a pain in the neck on the coast, and pegging’ down your awning or tent in windy coastal conditions can be a real problem if you don’t come prepared. Instead of carrying bulky sand pegs that still work their way loose, why not carry a few Adventure Kings Awning Sand Bags and use them as sand anchors? Simply fill them with sand and attach them to the awning as tie downs. They’re guaranteed to withstand stronger winds than your average tent peg.

USE YOUR VEHICLE AS A WIND BREAK

Speaking of wind… parking 90° to the sea breeze and camping on the calm side of your vehicle will reduce the chatter of zippers, rippling of your awning or rustling of your swag that would otherwise make for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Adding an Adventure Kings Awning Wall to your setup will also mean that if to get out of the wind means parking your vehicle facing the sun, you can still get shade – gotta be happy with that!

COST EFFECTIVE BBQ SETUP

An Adventure Kings BBQ Plate is a perfect idea for a cook up on a fire. Combine this with a set of Kings BBQ tools and you’ll want to be cooking meals on this daily! When you’re done with the fire, don’t bury the coals in the sand. Let it burn down as normal so there’s no chance of hot sand catching anyone out!

FOUR PROVEN FIRE STARTERS FOR WIND

Corn chips, cotton wool balls, lint out of your dryer or teabags soaked in citronella oil all make great fire starters in windy conditions.

HOW TO ESCAPE THE BUGS

Insects are always a problem, especially on the coast, near tidal flats and mangrove fringes where both mozzies and sand flies compete for your blood. Tropical strength insect repellent is time proven and used by many of the world’s armed forces. The wipe-on gel is best because it endures all day. Or you could make up your own by mixing equal parts of Dettol, citronella oil with a dab of methylated spirits. It might not suit all skin types, but trust us, in some locations this will be a lifesaver. For when you hit the hay, make sure you setup your Adventure Kings Mozzie Net under your awning, so nothing can get at you while you’re asleep.

KEEPIN’ THE SAND OUTTA’ YOUR GEAR

An Adventure Kings Mesh Floor – get one. One of these awesome bits of kit are perfect to use as a ground cover under your swag or awning as they cut down how much sand you drag into your setup. And any sand you do drag in falls through the cracks of the mesh, but the design of it means it can’t come back through. Keep it somewhere handy so you can bung it down on the ground before you roll your swag out. The cleaner the swag stays, the easier it’ll pack up.
