PACK SMARTER, NOT HARDER!

October 5, 2018   |   By PACK SMARTER, NOT HARDER! - image Capture2 on https://news.emgcloud.net/news

Here are our best bits of advice, to ensure you pack your 4WD more efficiently, with a smarter attitude towards the way you pack your camping essentials.

KEEP TABS OF ALL YOUR GEAR

When you are into camping, it is inevitable that you will have a range of gear that you use all the time, and other bits of gear you use barely ever!

By cataloguing your gear, you can make a checklist which you can tick off when packing your 4WD to make sure you leave none of your essential gear at home!

ORGANISATION IS KEY

When packing your gear into your 4WD it makes little sense to just chuck everything blindly into the back of your 4WD, this is where a set of Titan Rear Drawers come in spectacularly handy, they come in a range of sizes and are mostly universal fit.

The benefit to installing a set of heavy-duty Titan Drawers in the back of your 4WD is the ability to leave everything already packed through your everyday life, making sure you don’t have as big a job on Friday afternoon after you have come home from work and getting ready to hit the tracks!

The other benefit to a set of rear drawers in the back of your vehicle is the heavy duty, spring loaded tie down loops and a built-in fridge slide, meaning all of your gear will stay put on the tracks!

STOCK YOUR PANTRY!

By keeping your pantry permanently stocked with all the basic cooking ingredients and utensils, you’ll really only need to stop for meat and beers when heading off on your trip. This one tip will save you a stack of time and money each time you head away and by having an organised pantry box you’ll set up for meals much faster.

PACK SMARTER

When packing the 4WD, make sure you’ve packed in such a way that you’ve got access to all the things you’ll require first when you get to camp, and on the tracks.

For example, if you’re expecting to arrive late at camp and setup for dinner in the dark, then make sure your lighting is easily accessible, and that all your pantry and cooking gear is at the ready in the back of your 4WD.

Not only does this let you get to it all faster at night, but it’s also packed away, ready for easy and quick access ready for breakfast in the morning.

PUZZLE SOLVING: 3D TETRIS!

You need to come up with a logical system on how you should pack your 4WD.

Not everyone has committed to installing a fully-fledged Titan Drawer storage system in the back of their wagon or ute, and we aren’t here to judge, but if that is you.. its your loss.

If you are unfortunate enough to have not picked up your drawers yet, trusty old plastic crates with the clip-on lids are the perfect short-term solution for storing all of your gear for your adventures.

BE SPACE CONSCIOUS

“A fair few people ask me how I get away with a short wheel-base vehicle when out on the long distance trips. It’s simple. I make the most of the space I have and buy my gear accordingly. I don’t carry enormous tents, fridges larger than I need and spares that I’ll never be able to use anyway. I also make use of ‘dead’ areas in the 4WD. Dash storage, under the seats, above my head – it’s amazing how much wasted storage space there is inside your 4WD.” – Graham

SHARE THE LOAD

Whenever you’re travelling with mates, sit down over a beer (or two) and plan your packing so that there’s no doubling up on gear. You don’t need 2x chainsaws, 4x Eskys, 14x Camp Chairs for 8 people or a half a dozen bottles of coolant concentrate for only a weekend away. By sharing the load between everyone, you’ll all come away with heaps more space and less weight sitting above your axles.

SMARTER PACKING

The items you need to get to on a daily basis should be easily accessible, so put them in drawers and side pockets. Use soft sided bags for packing clothing which can act as fillers when squashed to help minimise any movement of your gear. Aim to have a couple of days’ meals in a small tub easily accessible, and use square containers, avoiding round or tapered shapes to minimise wasted space.

DON’T BE SCARED TO CULL YOUR LOAD

Every third-or-so camping trip, you should be taking note of all of the gear you haven’t touched.

If it’s not emergency related then you need to ditch it. By not bringing gear you don’t use with you, you will free up plenty of space, save weight making your fuel economy better and make the packing process a whole lot quicker and easier.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR 12v SYSTEM

All 4WD’s are fitted with at least a 12V battery, because of this reliable power source, you should try and get your hands on an Adventure Kings 60L Fridge Freezer, it can fit a whopping 88x 375mL cans which is enough to quench an armies thirst!

If you are planning on hitting the tracks, you should plug your Adventure Kings 60L Fridge Freezer into your 240V mains power to pre-chill, by prechilling your fridge, you reduce the load on your DC system, it also means your meat, and drinks are kept cold!

With these tips and tricks, you should have a much easier time packing your 4WD to head out camping!
