Tips and Tricks to Make Your Adventure Kings Fridge / Freezer Run Cooler

The spring camping season is here and we are loving being able to kick back in the sunshine, throwing back refreshing beers or soft drinks.

But to make sure you have a steady stream of cold beverages, we have 10 easy and helpful tips that’ll make your high efficiency Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer unit run cooler and use less battery power for longer trips away!

All of the Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezers are already energy efficient thanks to their legendary Secop (Danfoss) compressor and high quality, high efficiency insulation but there are still plenty of ways you can help your fridge run cooler, so here are our10 quick tips that’ll help your fridge run cooler and more efficiently:

1.Dual Battery System – If you’re planning on spending longer periods of time on the tracks, or even if you plan on taking regular weekend trips, you need to invest in a dual battery system to run your Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer longer without damaging your main battery – a deep cycle battery is the way to go.

2.Pre-chill contents – Before you leave home on your weekend escape, it’s a good idea to pre-chill your food and drinks in your normal fridge at home, this is so everything can chill all the way down. Then, before you head out, transfer everything into your Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer.

3.Pre-chill the fridge – By plugging in your Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer into the mains power at home will chill it down to operating temperature to get it ready for the tracks.

Your 45L, 60L or 70L Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer is able to run on 12 volt DC and 240 volt AC power – you can take advantage of this by plugging it in at home the night before your trip so it’s frosty cold and ready to go before you leave on your journey.

4.Keep the door shut – Just like at the local corner store, or hanging out at your mums place, you need to decide what you want before you open the fridge!

While you’re away on your trip, minimise the amount of time your Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer is open, if you let all the cold out (or the heat in depending on which way you look at it), because every second your fridge is unnecessarily open will mean that your fridge has to use more energy to cool back down.

Similarly, be a good mate and ask if anyone else needs a drink while you’re up – that’ll reduce the amount of times your fridge needs to be opened!

5.Restock at night – If there are longer trips, you should consider restocking the fridge, do it before bed – the cooler overnight temperature lets your fridge chill your drinks more effectively. Plus there’s no one opening it up for a good solid chunk of time whilst everyone is asleep– this means your Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer doesn’t have to constantly cool down the outside air.

6.Let it breath – When packing your 4WD make sure that it has plenty of space around the compressor area – What happens when you pack everything in too tightly is that the refrigerator won’t expel the hot air coming out of the condenser. This will make your fridge work on overtime and use more of your power.

7.Keep it in the shade – One of the biggest factors in keeping your fridge freezer running efficiently, is keeping it out of unnecessarily hot situations, if you leave your fridge in the sun, the heat from the sun on the outside of your fridge will transfer through the insulation and into the fridge itself, this will increase the load on the compressor and condenser and use more energy than is required. So if possible plan to place your fridge in the shade whenever you can – if you find that your fridge always lives in the back of your car, consider fitting a rear awning to give it all the shade it needs!

8.Your car is in an oven – Similar to tip 6 – if you need to leave your Adventure Kings Fridge/freezer in your vehicle, always ensure you leave the windows down or doors open to promote a healty, fresh air flow. The interior of your car can get significantly hotter than the outside temperature research shows that in just minutes a car can climb up to a stifling 70°C – particularly if it’s closed up and in the sun!

9.Add another layer – To add another layer of insulation, there is also the option to add a purpose made fridge cover. By adding an extra layer of insulation and protection to your fridge, you reduce the amount of insulation “leak” experienced by your fridge.

A purpose made insulation cover gives an exceptional level of additional protection from excessive heat and reduces the load on the internal components within a

10.Keep your battery healthy – If you’re using your fridge regularly, you should invest in a 12v solar panel. These are a silent and virtually cost free way of recharging your vehicles batteries and will enable you to keep your fridge running 24/7 – and they couldn’t be easier to use. Just set and forget!
