Once a jolly swagman – Always a jolly swagman!

With the myths and legends of living out of a swag a deep and integral part of Australian culture, references from Banjo Patterson’s songs and poems ring true in the hearts of young Aussies when looking to head out and go camping with a swag campsite setup!

Dozens of brands, makes and models of swag you can get your hands on in today’s market offer a heap of bells and whistles the swaggies from the days of old would of never of dreamed about, with some swags costing more than a decent used car, the options can seem endless.

So to help you narrow down the best features and the best value available in a swag today for the upmost durability and longevity in your swag, we have put together a short list of features we consider to be “ESSENTIAL” to an Authentic, yet comfortable, and affordable swagging experience!

1.Waterproof canvas.

Whilst this one seems obvious, not all swags are created equal, and not all canvasses are waterproof. Whilst many on the market are pretty reasonable for weather resistance, there aren’t many that can boast true waterproofing!

The whole range of Adventure Kings swags, offers tough and fully waterproof 400gsm Ripstop polycotton canvas, this material is not only fully waterproof but extremely durable when it comes to puncture and tear resistance.

With the integrated polyester grid, it takes a lot of force to break through this tough fabric, and with the natural wear resistance of canvas, you’d be mistaken for thinking it was a much thicker and heavier fabric!

2.Heavy duty built-In ground sheet.

As above, the fabrics used in constructing a tough swag, have to be absolutely solid performers when it comes to durability, and weather proofing. By combining the tough 400GSM ripstop polycotton canvas fabric with an extra durable and absolutely breathable 500gsm PVC bucket floor, an Adventure Kings Swag offers you the absolute master of keeping the weather out, whilst you sleep comfortably inside!

The PVC bucket floor offers extreme rip resistance and almost impenatrable waterproof qualities making sure you don’t get a damp back in the middle of the night, when the pouring rain, is pounding at your swag.

3. Double stitched seams

With the toughest fabrics and absolute durability in mind, the bonding and construction of the materials has to be taken into account, what good would a fabric that has the best waterproofing and durability be, if it simply fell apart at the slightest bump, graze, or short drag into the best location at camp!

All Adventure Kings swags take advantage of double stitched seams, this means that all the stitching is reinforced, making it absolutely reliable in the toughest conditions. The forces placed upon the fabric can make or break a camping experience, and during rough weather can mean the difference between sleeping or being kept up all night wondering if your swag will fall apart through the night!

  1. Easy to setup

When considering a swag, one of the most critical setup requirements is speed of setup, being able to show up at camp at 2:00am and be sleeping by 2:05am. Some swags have taken “simple setup” and bastardized it beyond recognition, with half a dozen poles that need to be setup in exactly the right sequence, otherwise all hell will break loose.

Although some of these pole systems are extremely ‘strong’ they don’t pass the 2am campsite test, and leave tired travellers frustrated and fed up with their more complicated setup.

All of the Adventure Kings swags have 3 or less poles making them extremely easy to setup, and although it isn’t recommended, you could even set most of these designs up without the poles by simply stringing up the high points of the swag to your bull bar or a nearby tree for stability!

  1. Excellent ventilation

Lastly but not least is ventilation, with human bodies putting out over 2L of moisture, overnight we often encounter a scientific principal called “dew point” this is the temperature where water vapor from sweat and breathing condenses on the inside surface of a tent or swag. Many tents have an advantage by using 2 layers of fabric, allowing dew point and condensation to form on the outside skin, keeping occupants dry from the morning dew.

To combat this in a swag, we require as much ventilation as we can get, without impeding our weather proofing. Swag designs like the range of Adventure Kings swags, like the Adventure Kings Big Daddy Deluxe Double Swag have massive amounts of ventilation meaning all the moisture can breath through to the outside of the swag, resulting in a dry nights sleep.

Not all swags offer this kind of protection from the elements, and the rough treatment your swag will experience throughout its lifespan, so make sure you don’t get stung with a swag that fails to deliver the performance and bang for buck found in an Adventure Kings Swag!
