The VMS Touring 700HDX is an excellent vehicle addition for anyone that wishes to travel both locally or afar, the clever device is packed full of intuitive features that offer campers a fast and simple way to back track or find the next port of call. Despite being extremely intuitive, these tips and tricks may give you a massive advantage for unlocking features that may not seem obvious to a first-time user!

Our favourite, trick that we are going to share with you is how you can easily find the best FREE campsites to you, and also discover plenty of information about those campsites!

Firstly you need to have a rough idea of where you would like to stay, a good idea of the nearest town or landmark will give you the perfect starting point to find the most convenient campsite for your trip.

The first step, to searching through the best options for your campsite, is to load up the VMS’ ‘On-road mapping software’ and then select Menu, this will open the menu/options screen, now press the Find button.

Find is a great way to explore the local area as well as researching the local area ready for your next trip.

To search for the perfect campsite, select the option Find Places on the ‘find’ page.

Find Places gives us the ability to look for points of interest in the local area, but also the ability to ‘custom search’ which is what we select, the next button is In a Town/Suburb this allows us to plan the trip whilst not on the road.



simply type in the town you are heading too, once you have searched, the results will show “*Free Campsites – VMS” once selected the VMS will bring up a list of campsites in the area of your custom searched town.

Select one of the options and it will display the site on the map so you can see exactly where it is, when viewing the location on the map the “ Info button” on the top right of the screen will allow you to “Show Place Info” which will pull up a list of information such as directions, whether there is water fireplaces whether it is accessible by 4WD or 2WD and even if pets are allowed.

If available you can even get the best contact details for the land manager of the campsite, whether that be the local NPWS or the local state forest managers, who can give you the latest updates on the track conditions and accessibility.

If you like the campsite you can save it to your favourites by heading back to the map screen and selecting More you can add as many locations as you would like to your favourite locations, ready to go when you are planning your route.
