This is why YOU might need a dual battery system for camping!

12v camping accessories like Fridges or LED camp lights have never been so affordable, however it is risky to run them without a secondary power system.

If you choose to run all your 12V accessories off your starter battery, you may get the nasty surprise of being unable to start your engine in the morning.

Starter batteries are designed to put out huge current over short bursts to start your engine. Because of this they aren’t designed to be drained deep into their capacity too many times before they start to be damaged internally and begin to wear out prematurely.

Deep Cycle Battery and Smart Isolators

The solution to this issue is to add one of the brand new Adventure Kings AGM Deep Cycle Batteries to your setup.

These batteries are designed to be drained to about 50% capacity (down to only 12 Volts from a full charge nearing 13+ Volts) safely. They can undergo this process many times over without shortening their lifespan or damaging their internal components, perfect for running all your 12v accessories through the night.

So how do you recharge your new auxiliary deep cycle battery?

There are many ways, but the most efficient way to charge your setup is to connect your brand new auxiliary deep cycle battery to your 4WD’s alternator charging system. This means your alternator does all of the charging work, just like with your normal starter battery.

With this setup we still need to safely isolate the two batteries, you can setup your system to do this manually but that is a bit of a hassle, we recommend you fit an automatic voltage sensitive isolator like the Adventure Kings Smart Battery Isolator which will connect and disconnect your batteries automatically using clever voltage sensing technology.

This  system will automatically make sure your starter battery doesn’t drop below 12.8V isolating it from the rest of the system, so all of your accessories like your Adventure Kings Fridge/Freezer and Adventure Kings camp lighting don’t drain your main battery voltage overnight and you’ll be able to head home when you need to!

You can get an easy DIY dual battery kit with a smart isolator and a deep cycle battery from  at a fraction of what you’d pay elsewhere.
