MOUNTING YOUR WINCH

Before mounting up your new winch it’s important to make sure you have a suitable steel mounting frame which is at a minimum 5mm thick and reinforced using welded or folded gussets to a secure frame that is rated and capable of withstanding the winch’s rated capacity according to the cradle manufacturer.

A cradle/ bullbar manufacturer will be able to provide you with detailed descriptions on how to install a winch to their rated mounting platform, using all 4x mounting points built into the frame of your winch system.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

With your hardware mounted up its time to get the sparks flowing safely through the included wiring kit, pay very close attention to making appropriate and firm electrical cable connections with the following wiring as follows;

  • Short red cable (B’) connecting to the red terminal (B) of the motor.
  • Short black cable with yellow jacket (C’) connecting to the yellow terminal (C) of the motor.
  • Short black cable with black jacket (D’) connecting to the black terminal (D) of the motor
  • Thin black cable(a’) connecting to terminal (A) of the motor.
  • Long black cable (1.8m), one terminal (A’) connecting to the bottom terminal (A) of the motor, and the other terminal negative (-) connecting to negative (-) terminal of battery.
  • Long red cable positive (+) connecting to positive (+) terminal of battery.

NOTES:

For reliable operation when you need it most you should ensure that your battery is kept in good condition and fully charged to prevent misdiagnosing a fault in your winch, it is also important to make sure your cable connections are all firm and secure to convey the most amount of current, to your setup.

Be sure battery cables are not drawn taught across any surfaces, as chafing or tension could possibly damage them or ruin the connections and result in failure to operate.

Corrosion on electrical connections will reduce performance or may cause a short, so ensure your connections are clean.

In salty environments use a silicone sealer to protect from corrosion and thoroughly rinse after exposure to keep the winch working flawlessly, day in day out.

The best way to get acquainted with how your winch operates is to make a few test runs before you actually need to use it. Plan your test in advance. Remember you can hear your winch as well as you can see it operate. Get to recognize the sound of a light steady pull, a heavy pull, and sounds caused by load jerking or shifting. Soon you will gain confidence in operating your winch and its use will become second nature to you.
