10 Camping Essentials I Always Keep In My Drawers

I do not know about you, but when I pack my 4wd to head out bush for the weekend I reckon I can have the 4wd loaded up and on the road in under 10 minuets. Now for some people that might sound impossible, but I’m here to tell you that just about anyone can pack the car and hit the road I absolutely no time at all. Wanna know how? It’s a set of Titan Rear Storage Drawers in the back of your 4wd!
Having a set of 4wd Storage drawers in the back of your 4wd, means you don’t have too unpack everything and chuck it all back in the shed when you get home from an epic weekend away in the bush.

Here are 10 items that I have in the back of my 4×4 Drawers that absolutely never come out unless I’m out at camp using them or at home giving the 4wd a good clean-up.

1: Fire Starters
A box of fire starters would have to be pretty high up on any experienced campers priority list. They could mean the difference between freezing your backside off on a freezing cold and soggy wet winters night and staying nice and cosy warm right next to the fire with an ice cold beer in hand while kicking back and enjoying the nice cool air.
They normally come in a small cardboard box and take up little to no space at all, meaning you could store them basically anywhere you want- but I NEVER leave home without a set in my 4wd Drawers.

2: Hatchet
Now this next one might be my absolute favourite tool to take out camping with me. A good quality hatchet has got me out of trouble more times than I can count when there was not kindling around the campsite to collect and or if I had forgotten to grab a couple of bags of firewood from the servo on the way out to the bush. They are small enough to fit in just about any configuration in your rear storage drawers, so they don’t need their own specific spot in the storage drawers for 4wd’s. For that reason, they never leave the back of my Titan Storage Drawers. You can also use them for just about anything at camp- from cutting fallen firewood and chopping up kindling to get the fire going to using it as a hook to get the camp oven or kettle off the fire. Oh, and a quick bonus tip for you- use a hatchet to remove as much bark from your firewood as possible. Generally speaking, the more bark on the firewood, the smokier the camp fire and the longer that wood will take to catch fire and keep you warm.

3: Bag of tent pegs
I can think of only a few things camping wise that would be worse than pulling up at camp, starting to set up the awning, swag or gazebo only to find that you’ve left your tent pegs at home. This is exactly why my bag of tent pegs hasn’t been taken out of my 4×4 rear storage drawers in over 3 years. You can even purchase a clear top bag from 4wd Supacentre which keep the rear drawers nice and neat and fits perfectly in your storage drawers. The beaty of these clear top bags is that you can keep multiple different camping items in them which I will get to in the next few things that never leave my Camping Storage Drawers.

4: Spare Guy Ropes/ Paracord
As I mentioned previously, having a clear top canvass bag in your rear 4×4 drawers allows you to keep your storage drawers as neat and tidy as possible, making it super easy to find whatever it is you are looking for in the back of your Titan Storage Drawers. Having spare guy ropes on hand allows you to set up even more gear while at camp. Plus, you can use them to hang up your towels and swimmers after a great day swimming.

5: LED Camp Lights:
These days, the majority of 4wds have a half decent 12v system in the back which allows you to run extra light underneath your awning, gazebo or even inside of your rooftop tent. In the back of my titan storage drawers, I have a 5 bar camp light kit from 4wd Supacentre, which has been there for over 18 months now. LED camp lights are super handy for more uses than one. Not only can you use them at camp, but you can use them at home for working on your 4wd at night. Most of them have a magnet on the back which makes them incredibly easy to use. Simply attach them to anything steel and they’ll stick in place with no dramas at all.

6: Tyre Repair Kit
Keeping a tyre repair kit in the back of your 4wd Storage Drawers at all times is a complete fail-safe for almost any trackside or roadside tyre repair. The small rectangular box can stack on top of just about anything in your 4×4 drawers and they take up less space than a magazine. They carry everything you would need to repair any minor tyre blowouts.

7: Recovery Kit
You would have to be out of your mind to hit the tracks or the beach without a good quality recovery kit your storage drawers. These days, a good quality recovery kit comes with absolutely everything you’d need to get you out of just about any recovery situation. The exact kit I keep in my rear drawers is the Complete Recovery Kit from Adventure Kings and again, it NEVER leaves my storage drawers.

8: Tool Kit
You never know when you are going to need a good quality tool kit. Not one breakdown or breakage in the history of 4wding has ever been planned- they almost always take us by surprise. That’s why my Bush Mechanic toolkit has a permanent spot in the back of my 4wd. My particular toolkit has just about any tool you could imagine to get me back on the road in case of a breakdown or breakage and it cost me only as much as a few cartons of beer. So, its got my tick of approval and stays in my 4wd Drawers.

9: Air Compressor
Keeping an air compressor in your camping drawers is not only super convenient after a day of the beach meaning you don’t have to wait in line at the servo to air up, but it also makes your tyres last longer by reducing ware and tear on the sidewalls. When you drive on low PSI tyres, the sidewall is constantly being squished and expanded again as the tyre makes contact with the surface of the road. So while driving to the servo to air up might seem harmless, you are actually causing damage to your 4wd tyres. That’s why my compressor comes with me in my storage drawers everywhere I go.

10: First Aid Kit
And finally, one of the most important bits of gear you can take out bush with you is a good quality first aid kit. With one of these on hand you could save a life if you are properly trained to use the equipment they come with. I have kept up to date with my first aid qualifications and I cannot recommend enough that every person should invest a few hours of your time into a properly certified first aid course.

There you go, that’s 10 things that never leave my Titan rear storage drawers!
